The safe and sheltered Nebraska Beach is a couple of minutes' stroll from your Bruny Island accommodation. The sandstone crags and rocky shores of Bligh Point at the southern end of the beach make a great spot for a picnic lunch - if the wind is in the wrong direction, just walk north to find another sheltered corner. Further afield, these are a few of Bruny Island's essential experiences:
- Take the Killora Road for a change of scenery - turn left on Nebraska Road at the bottom of the drive. The loop rejoins the road to Dennes not far from the main sealed road south. The views are excellent but it's a typical North Bruny road - gravel, winding and narrow - so take your time.
- Try the local produce - (see What you need to bring) - and please tell the friendly local makers, growers and producers where you're staying.
- Stop at The Neck to walk on the beach or climb the flight of steps that overlooks the dunes and narrow isthmus.
- Cruise the wild and remote coastline of South Bruny aboard Rob Pennicott's internationally-acclaimed Bruny Island Charters eco-adventure.
- From the southern corner of Adventure Bay, follow the scenic track to Penguin Island, site of early bay-whaling stations; and climb on to enjoy spectacular views of the awesome sea crags on Fluted Cape.
- Turn left at Lunawanna to reach the wide expanse of Cloudy Bay Beach - it's a popular surfing spot. Turn right at the Lunawanna T-junction for the historic Cape Bruny Lighthouse and great bushwalks on the Labillardiere Peninsula.
